S01E00 – Welcome to Talking About Marketing

Talking About Marketing Podcast by Steve Davis and David Olney

The test episode of the podcast

This is a test file for our new Talking About Marketing podcast launching September 6, 2022.

We hope you'll find this helpful if you're wanting to thrive as a business owner or as a business leader.

You'll get insights to help you personally and professionally, with discussion about principles and case studies that you can apply today.

Steve Davis: Hello, Steve Davis here, and this is well, what number do we call this David Olney? This is the test file for Talking About Marketing. It's not even zero; does zero even exist?

David Olney: Well zero definitely exists. Otherwise we wouldn't know that we've got nothing.

Steve Davis: But I also heard a mathematician talk about minus the square root of one. We could call it that number episode?

David Olney: This is the Square root of minus one or we could just say this is the one before we have the fun.

Steve Davis: Well, that's true. Talking About Marketing is our new podcast venture. It's going to be, we hope, helpful for you in running your business or being in a leadership position in your organisation. It will contain insights that we'll draw from the realm of marketing and related disciplines. That's fair to say David? You're comfortable with that? I haven't drawn you in on false pretenses?

David Olney: That sounds absolutely fair and I think we could probably say be there or be square.

Steve Davis: We're going to look at structuring this similar to Philip Kotler's famous 4 Ps of Marketing. You know, Product, Price, Place, and Promotion.

I wanted our own four Ps, so we'll have Personal, Principles, Problems, and Perspicacity.

David Olney: Always like it when I get to be perspicacious!

Steve Davis: Exactly! We'll explain all of that when it's live, but this is really just to flush something through the pipes. Right now, I do five podcasts. How many do you do at the moment David?

David Olney: I think at least four.

Steve Davis: Well, let's see if joining forces will enable us to be useful, helpful in some way, by recording some of the things that we normally talk about that but that nobody gets to hear.

David Olney: And remember what they say in Caddy Shack: Be the ball.

Steve Davis: Or as Oscar Wilde said: There's only one thing worse than being talked about and that's not being talked about.
